Anaerobic wastewater treatment with biogas storage

Burkhardt Fruchtsäfte GmbH & Co. KG has been around for four generations, producing delicious juices straight from the tree – including apple trees from traditional orchards. Just like the fruit juice producer itself, these have been part of the Swabian alpine pasture since the beginning of the 20th century. In more than 100 years of company history, however, a lot has happened: refreshing product creations, such as a citrus-ginger drink from the “Spritzer” range, five-time winner of the German Federal Prize for Excellence or a new and modern appearance are just a few steps on Burkhardt Fruchtsäfte’s corporate journey.

Initial situation

Another milestone in the development of Burkhardt Fruchtsäfte GmbH and a prime example for the food industry is the installation of the FlexBio waste water treatment plant. This plant plays a crucial role in cleaning and relieving the wastewater while generating energy at the same time.

However, the benefits of the system go beyond mere wastewater treatment. It also relieves the municipal sewage treatment plant, which creates new capacity for further construction areas and industrial dischargers. The smooth cooperation between FlexBio and Burkhardt also demonstrates the success of the project. The on-site workshop supported the plant construction by providing tools, among other things, while FlexBio carried out the construction on site and ensured that everything ran smoothly.

Burkhardt had already set up a mixing and equalization basin with neutralization in advance, which is now used upstream of the wastewater treatment plant. These advanced wastewater treatment measures have helped Burkhardt Fruchtsäfte GmbH & Co. KG to become an even more sustainable company. They set an important example for the importance of environmental protection and sustainability in the food industry.
